Responsibilities
- Lead company R&D in chemical genomics and high throughput screening with human embryonic stem (“hES”) cells, particularly development of efficient automated systems to culture hES cells into specified differentiated derivatives such as cardiomyocytes and hematopoietic lineages
- Design new assays and methods based on fluorescence and other biochemical techniques that lead to generally applicable protocols
- Support proteomics approaches by applying recent techniques in protein purification. Use biochemical assays, homologous recombination and gene targeting in hES cells to assay for and purify cell lines of specific lineage for therapeutic and clinical applications
- Screen for small molecules used to control lineage fate. Investigate basic developmental biology of hES cells including self renewal, pluripotency, and differentiation
- Supervise technicians and other scientists
Requirements
- Ph.D in Biology.
- Also requires 3 years experience with:
- Assay design and development for high throughput screening and drug discovery
- Culturing techniques for hES cells, including experience with hES cell-based screening of small molecule libraries and Automation of liquid handling
- Bioimaging techniques (particularly time resolved FRET and lanthanide fluorescence) and fluorescence labeling
- Directed differentiation of human embryonic stem cells into hematopoeitic lineages by co-culture systems or embryoid body formation
- Purification of proteins and nucleic acids
